Q & A

Q & A

What is the difference between BALAYAGE and SOMBRE/OMBRE?

Balayage, like Ombre and Sombre, is about color transitions that are seamless. However, while Ombre typically begins halfway down the length of the strand, Balayage incorporates roughly 3/4 of the length of the hair. Also, Ombre typically uses back-to-back sections, whereas Balayage employs a brick-lay technique with space between the highlights.

When do you choose balayage over Foils? WHEN DO YOU CHOOSE BALAYAGE OVER FOILS?

The deciding factor is how natural of a result you prefer. Some clients prefer the natural look of balayage, while others prefer highlights that are closer to the scalp and more visible.

Can you balayage curly hair?

Yes. Balayage is the perfect solution! I will consider the density of the hair and customize it for you. Balayage can be preferred on naturally curly hair because of its customizable effect. The curlayage technique is perfect for curly hair types.

Can you balayage on brown, black, or red hair?

Yes. The beauty of Balayage is that it can be done at any level! Balayage is ideal for creating a customized effect on any color of hair.

How much maintenance does balayage require?

Balayage typically grows out gracefully, leaving less of a line of demarcation. Salons usually charge more for personalized attention because it produces a more customized result. A lower maintenance schedule can help to offset the higher cost of traditional highlight services. Depending on the formula, the average Balayage client can go 3–5 months between services.

How do I retouch a balayage service?

All highlighting methods require retouching. Balayage is no different. Just like with foil highlights, I will select the same strands as the previous service and only retouch the new hair growth. Some clients prefer to have a few more pieces added in the summer and fewer in the winter, so some changes may be required. Some of the most beautiful balayage looks have pieces that have grown to various lengths and evolved over time!

How do I transition a client from highlights to balayage?

I'll walk you through the transition process. Consider adding a few lowlights in a shade that is about one level lighter than the natural base. I'll also focus on the top of the head and the area around the face.

What color line and lightener do you use at the salon?

For open-air balayage painting, I use Wella Freelights, a clay-like lightener. This lightener dries the outer shell while keeping the interior moist. It's ideal for sun-kissed highlights. I frequently use the Redken Flashlift lightener to increase lift and brightness.

How long does the balayage service take?

Because of the customizable effect. It usually takes 3–6 hours. It all depends on your hair's density, texture, length, and technique. It is also necessary to schedule a haircut alongside your balayage service because the balayage will accentuate your hairstyle.

How much does the balayage service cost?

Because of the customizable effect. It takes longer than traditional foil highlights and is dependent on your hair's density, texture, length, and techniques. Balayage services often require a haircut. It could cost between $300 to $600.

Why is the bond treatment great for balayage or highlight services?

Hair bonding treatments are additives that we use in hair color, lighteners, high lift hair color, and even semi-permanent color. They are intended to maintain the integrity of the hair shaft or cuticle, thereby protecting it from potential damage. "Olaplex" is a well-known and popular choice among clients.

Can I get from black hair to blonde hair in one day/ session?

It's possible to lighten from black to blonde hair in a single session or day. If you have virgin hair and it is healthy, no signs of damage have shown. On the other hand, dyed black hair is more challenging to work with and produces an unpredictable result because you never know what color will lift or what color of pigment will be exposed beneath the black dye.

How Do I Find the Best Hair Colorist?

Conduct some research on local salons and ask friends and family about their hairstylists. Another option is to find them via social media. Look through their posts and photos to see if their style is appropriate for your needs. If you have any questions, DM them and send your inspirational photos. Once you've decided on a new stylist, the first step is to schedule an in-person or phone consultation. Tell them about your budget and the color services you need to book to achieve your hair goals. Also, have a list of what's a must-have (e.g., gray coverage, tone down a brassy color or go darker, etc.) and what's nice to have.

What is a lived-in hair color?

That involvesIt's a subtle highlighting technique that combines highlights and color to allow your color to grow out naturally rather than leaving visible roots that need to be touched up frequently. Most importantly, it can last for six months.

What is a low-maintenance hair color?

Balayage is an excellent low-maintenance hair color/highlight method for a subtle change or to refresh your hair. Ask your stylist for advice on which highlight colors will best complement your natural color and lifestyle. A balayage color that aligns with your natural root color will grow out smoothly and without harsh lines.

What is a babylight?

It functions similarly to a traditional highlighting service, but with a micro-stitch and ultra-fine sections, there is no harsh line of demarcation as the color grows out. It produces a look with subtle dimension and illumination, much like how children's hair naturally lightens in the sun! Babylights are suitable for any hair color or skin tone, making them an excellent technique for those seeking low-maintenance.

What is a base break or a base bump?

A Base Break service is ideal for those who believe the contrast between the natural color and the highlight is too strong. It is typically applied to Zone 1 and blended as needed. We recommend using it between highlight services to increase the longevity of your foil services. To achieve optimal results, keep the lift between ½ and 1 level.

What is the difference between an accent, partial and a full highlight?

Accent highlights add a pop of color or highlight. It is typically used to brighten the face as a money piece, face framing highlights, or peek-a-boo highlights.(up to ten foils).

The top of the crown and the sides of the head have been partially highlighted. It is ideal for in-between full-highlight service appointments. The back of the head and underneath are left out as a shadow or depth zone. (Up to twenty foils)

Full highlights extend from the top of the head to the nape area and the front of the hairline. It creates an overall highlight effect. (up to thirty foils)
